Guided self-help is a one-to-one form of treatment working closely with one of our Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP). Your PWP will initially help you to understand your difficulties before you learn techniques based on low-intensity treatment options to help manage your low mood or anxiety. Some of the more common options are:
- Behavioural Activation: A process where an individual works to balance the number of necessary, routine and pleasurable activities that they complete on a daily basis.
- Sleep Hygiene: A method for improving the quality and duration of sleep.
- Thought Challenging: A method for identifying and challenging negative thinking patterns and coming up with more balanced alternatives.
- Exposure Therapy: A technique to gradually overcome avoidance of feared or difficult situations.
- Problem Solving: A method for working through troubling problems to reduce the impact of the problems on your mood.
- Worry management for GAD: a way of identifying and limiting niggling ‘what if?’ worries.
- Panic management: a technique to understand why you experience panic attacks and how to limit them
