How to sleep better

This is an introduction to the topic of sleep difficulties including the importance of sleep for general wellbeing and the practical things we can do to improve our sleep.

The ‘How to sleep better’ webinar begins by looking at the role of sleep, the sleep cycle, and some of the short- and long-term reasons we may struggle with our sleep. The webinar then introduces self-help tips based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to improve our sleep, such as a sleep diary and sleep hygiene. Information on how to adjust these self-help tips for shift-working is also included. The webinar includes information about the support offered by the NHS Hertfordshire and Mid Essex Talking Therapies service for anyone interested in receiving further help and guidance.

  • The role of sleep: An introduction to the role sleep plays in our lives and discussion on how much sleep is needed per night. 
  • The sleep cycle: An explanation to what is the sleep cycle, the different stages that comprise the sleep cycle and what happens when our sleep cycle is disrupted. 
  • The Cognitive Behavioural cycle: An introduction to the Cognitive Behavioural cycle and how it can be used to understand our thoughts and behaviours when experiencing sleep difficulties. 
  • Tips for better sleep: An introduction to self-help techniques that can help improve sleep, including a sleep diary and how to develop a better sleep hygiene.
